Epistemic and social robustness within research – the example of the replication crisis in psychology

This bridging project takes a philosophical and sociological approach to addressing the question of which epistemic and social criteria new scientific knowledge must meet in order to be considered robust by academics. The project revolves around the “dual structure” of epistemic and social robustness for societal processes of testing scientific knowledge (e.g., Nowotny; Lentsch/Weingart). It empirically examines whether a comparable “dual structure” of processes exists for testing such knowledge within the scientific community. Group discussions will be conducted with young scholars in the field of psychology in order to generate new insights for this project.
