Leibniz Center for Science and Society
Welcome to the website of the LCSS - the Leibniz Center for Science and Society. The LCSS was set up in April 2016 at the Leibniz University of Hannover for the purpose of creating a key-site for Science Studies and Higher Education Research.
The LCSS conducts interdisciplinary research and cooperates closely with the German Centre for Higher Education and Science Studies (DZHW).
The Leibniz Center for Science and Society (LCSS) conducts theory-driven, empirical research in Science Studies and Higher Education Research. The LCSS focuses on the transformations and rapidly changing interactions between science and society. The majority of current studies depict this as a transition from the industrialized welfare-state towards a globalized knowledge society. Yet these studies usually only consider one single disciplinary perspective. Hence, they can only partially reflect those transformations and are, therefore, unable to grasp the entire social dynamic. Our comprehensive combination of academic disciplines at the LCSS ensures a broader perspective. Substantial contributors are sociology, political sciences, philosophy, law, and economics.
On our website you will find the most essential facts and information about the LCSS. If you want to find out more, do not hesitate to contact the LCSS coordinator, Nadja Bieletzki.
We also recommend the website of the MA Wissenschaftsphilosophie (German only) and the MA Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft (German only).
In case you need more information or would like to make a personal appointment, please contact the coordinator, Dr. Nadja Bieletzki.
