Projects at LCSS

At LCSS Maxim Khomyakov studies the role science and technology play in the modern imaginary of mastery over the world (meaning both mastery over non-human nature and control over society), especially in Soviet and post-Soviet constellations of Russian modernity. This research is an essential part of a larger historical-sociological project on interpreting mastery over the world in different modern constellations and is based, on the one hand, on the theories of plural modernity, and on the other hand, on the historical and sociological analysis of a cluster of such concepts as ‘scarcity’, ‘frontiers’, ‘autonomy’, ‘mastery’, ‘affluence’ and so on.
