The LCSS conducts theory-driven, empirical research in Science Studies and Higher Education Research. The LCSS focuses on the transformations and rapidly changing interactions between science and society.

The LUH maintains a cross-faculty organisational structure to support interdisciplinary associations in competitive key areas, across the disciplines and faculties. Within this structure, Leibniz Research Centres such as LCSS form the second stage, drawing international attention to their excellent research activities. LCSS supports the key research area ‘Science on Science’.
